Psychiatric Assessment

Initial assessment typically requires two separate one hour consultations and involves a lot of biographical as well as the necessary clinical information gathering. The outcome is not just a diagnosis, but a formulation of the nature of the problem and how different aspects of the clinical picture and background history fit into it. A treatment plan is also put forward to help address the issues at hand.

Follow up consultations are usually for half an hour, but can be longer if clinically necessary or at the patient’s request. Under certain circumstances, a shorter 15 minute telephone consultation may be appropriate.
