Anxiety is common and it’s corrosive effect over time on a person’s ability to function can be dangerously underestimated. Apart from a number of specific anxiety disorders, it’s also a very common feature of most other psychiatric conditions, substance misuse issues and personality difficulties.
More recently we have started to understand that all anxiety is not the same and that certain types of anxiety are likely to involve specific neural circuits in the brain. This should influence the choice of medication and requires specialist assessment to get it right.
